Totally into Tea

by Erin Thoresen

rishi-teaRishi is a company that sacrifices nothing for quality. They travel far and wide throughout the world’s tea-producing regions in search of the finest quality artisan teas. They work directly with the tea growers – no middlemen – to guarantee a better relationship between Rishi and the tea growers, bringing us a better product.

Our tea at the Roadhouse represents the full line of flavors and profiles. We have everything from rich, dark, malty Golden Yunnan to the light, brisk and floral Jade Oolong, with a splash of fruity hibiscus on the side – found in the Honey Plum blend. Whether you’re looking for a really good cup of strong black tea to wake you up before your grits & eggs, or you prefer the antioxidants of a lively green tea, we have something you’re bound to love. If you prefer something milder, try the Organic White Peony. It’s sweet and toasty, not too acidic, and goes great with most food.

Although I am a novice when it comes to tea knowledge I know I can rely on Rishi to provide the Roadhouse with fantastic, high-quality teas. Thanks to Rishi we are able to provide our guests with a wide selection of teas to accompany any meal. Made from organic Fair Trade Certified™ black tea leaves flavored with natural bergamot oil, our iced tea is considered by many to be the best around.

Another favorite is the calming chamomile-based Serene: a botanical blend full of lavender and a hint of jasmine, made with 79% organic ingredients. It’s great at the end of a long, hectic day when you’ve finished a delicious meal and just want to go home and relax before bed.

One of my new favorites is the Jade Oolong. Oolong teas (pronounced wu-long) are prized in southeastern Asia and Japan for being rich in antioxidants, helping reduce cholesterol levels and promote healthy weight loss. More than that, these teas come in a variety of colors and styles, fitting in somewhere between green and black tea. This particular tea is lighter in body, featuring nice floral aromatics, a brisk flavor and a golden green color.

    1. Glad you are a fan!

The recipe for our Spicy Mayo is:
      1 cup mayonnaise
      2 teaspoons Frank’s Hot Sauce
1 pinch of minced peeled garlic
      1 pinch cayenne pepper

Combine ingredients and mix well, whipping quickly by hand or electric mixer.

And of course, if you ever want to avoid having to make it yourself, you can always purchase a pint or quart (or gallon!) from the Roadhouse anytime.

      Thanks!
